Fifth wheel carports
Fifth wheels are the hardest common rig to size a carport for, because the tallest point is usually the front cap rather than anything on the main roof — and because the pin box changes what "length" means.
The raised front cap usually wins
On most fifth wheels the forward section sits higher than the main roof, and the air conditioner is frequently mounted on the main roof behind it. That means the tallest point on the vehicle may be the leading edge of the cap, the equipment behind it, or on some layouts a second air conditioner over the bedroom. It depends on the floor plan.
Fifth wheels are often among the taller RVs on the road, though that varies by model rather than holding as a universal rule. It is not unusual for a fifth wheel to need a clear opening height that exceeds what many standard carport configurations offer as a stock leg height, which can push you toward a taller special order.
Measure the actual tallest point rather than reasoning from the category. Two fifth wheels of the same advertised length can differ by more than a foot in height.
Length depends on whether it stays hitched
A fifth wheel parked on its own landing gear occupies its own length. A fifth wheel left connected to the truck occupies considerably more, and the overlap between the truck bed and the trailer overhang means the combined figure is not simply the two lengths added together.
If you intend to store it hitched, measure the actual combined footprint on the ground rather than calculating it.
Slide-outs are the width decision
Fifth wheels commonly carry multiple slide-outs, often on both sides. Whether you size for them extended is the single largest lever on required width, and it is a genuine choice rather than a given — many owners only extend slides when camping, not when the rig is parked at home under cover.
If you do want to live in it under the structure, size for the slides. If you do not, sizing for retracted slides can save several feet of width and a meaningful amount of money.

Every figure below is something you can establish with a tape measure and twenty minutes. None of it can be safely inferred from a model number.

Nominal size is not usable clearance
Whatever figures you arrive at, remember what they describe. The numbers above are the space your vehicle needs — the usable opening you must be able to drive into. Carports are advertised at nominal frame dimensions measured to the outside of the structure, and the legs, base rails, and corner braces all intrude on that opening.
This means the structure you order should be nominally larger than the clearance you calculated. How much larger depends on the specific frame, which is why the last step before ordering is always to confirm the clear opening against the manufacturer drawings rather than the listing headline.
